Intending to continue the science of herbs, the PTT Public Company Limited established HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Herbal Garden is the first herb garden in Thailand.
It was built in 1984 in the staff home area, Map Kha Sub-district, Nikom Phatthana District, Rayong Province. It is located in an area of 24 acres (60 rai), to preserve and develop natural resources for future generations.
Recognized as the first herb garden in Thailand, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Herb Garden was established on 18 April 1985 by the Petroleum Authority of Thailand, presently PTT Public Company.
In this occasion, Phra Bam Somdet Phra Paraminthorn Maha Bhumibol Adulyadej, Queen Sirikit, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and Her Royal Highness Prince Chulabhorn Walailak Archangel had planted Nutmeg trees at this herb garden as an auspicious memorial.
On the occasion of the 50th birthday anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 2005, the PTT built a building in her honor and the exhibition building to disseminate knowledge about herbs, the structures and landscape of this garden were further developed to promote the place as a local wisdom source for the people and communities.
